RPI Day 2

It was a very interesting day.

First I found out, after all these years, how much I did not know about the information that PAT testing can provide. It is able to identify learning areas that can change the way children are grouped, to focus on a skill rather than their ability to read. I know there are other tests that do this, but PAT is quick and easy and provides a snapshot for the beginning of the year, while finding time to do others can be difficult.

The Teacher Workbook that was shared with us is a fantastic way to have all the reading information for the class in one place. Thanks to whoever designed and put it all together. It was a bit overwhelming when I was taken through it at first, but I can see that it would not take much to maintain once it is set up.
All in all, a very informative day. I have quite a 'to do' list that I will have to go through and prioritise. And then, of course, try to work through.

  1. Kia ora Wayne,

Thanks for sharing your reflection. I'm glad to hear that you found the day useful, and that you've got a bit of a list to do in the intervening weeks. Hopefully you'll have better luck with health this cycle, so that you're able to dig into the tools.

I've always really appreciated having something like the teacher workbook - saves keeping it all in my head and makes it easier to see the progress over time at a glance - so I'm glad that you can see it's benefits. It's definitely got a lot in there, but having a one stop shop is such a time saver.

    See you again soon,
    Georgie

  2. Hi Wayne, isn't it amazing that as teachers we implement the PATs and then we really do very little else with them. In the past I have examined the results and I would be interested to discuss this with you and look at how we could give this more focus at our team meetings.
The workbook does look fantastic. Once you get yours up and running it would be good to look at how we could adapt this as an expectation for all of our teachers.
Looking forward to hearing how day 3 goes.
    Ngā mihi
    Kate
